While we cannot give you every detail here, we can try to send you in the right direction. There are many laws and regulations that impact how we, as landlords, provide housing to someone in return for monthly payments.

As a landlord, you must be familiar with numerous laws...from the local to federal level. Local (city, township, county level) legal topics include evictions, zoning, construction, historical sites, permits, signs, property management etc.

Statewide laws cover the same items, but on a more general level. Legislators in Springfield are continually putting bills out as potential new laws. These bills/laws range from environmental laws (lead poisoning) to policing (you must evict someone accused of selling drugs or your building will be closed down for a year.)

On the Federal level, laws are in place designed to prevent housing discrimination in renting. Protect yourself and research these laws by using all resources available to you such as the internet, library and bookstore. You should also have knowledge of credit privacy and credit checking regulations. Federal law also covers inspections, tenant rights, and more.

County . . .

Will County info can be found online at www.http://www.willcountyillinois.com. The Code Enforcement Department www.willcountylanduse.com/Code/index.html makes sure the county ordinances regarding buildings are enforced.  You can read those ordinances at http://www.willcountylanduse.com/Building/BuildingOrdinance.html. The Enforcement page also has some great links at the bottom, so scroll down and check them out.

Kendal County's official site is www.co.kendall.il.us. You can get a list of their ordinances at www.co.kendall.il.us/zoning/kcord.htm
